Broken Torsion Springs

Here is what a broken torsion spring on a sectional garage door looks like. There will be a separation somewhere in the coil. If you go to open your door and it only comes up a little and stops you might have a broken spring.

Springs on a garage door will usually last between 7-12 years. Torsion springs are rated in cycles. A good cycle rating is 10,000. However, if you use your garage door more than 10 times a day, they might not last that long. To icrease the life of the springs, keep them oiled and adjusted properly.
